What to notice

Island nation does not mean no land borders. Haiti and the Dominican Republic share Hispaniola; Ireland and the United Kingdom share the island of Ireland. Indonesia shares islands with Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and Malaysia. Brunei lies on Borneo and borders Malaysia. Japan and Madagascar illustrate countries separated from other sovereign states by sea.

Recall island nations

Make two columns: island countries with a land neighbour, and those without one. Place five examples, then check their shared islands.
