Farflung privacy: sessions and accounts
A secure session cookie identifies your guest or signed-in game session. When you choose Google sign-in, the service receives the identifier and profile information needed to connect your account. Public boards show only your chosen display name and preset avatar, not your email address.
Game records
We store attempts, saved candidates, answers, scores, timing, discoveries, and achievements. These records let you resume a game, view your passport, and compare eligible results. Server-side rate-limit records help prevent abuse. Essential cookies are used for sessions and request protection.
Sharing and private leagues
A postcard is created only when you choose to share. It contains your score and rarity results without current clues or answers. Anyone with an active share or invitation link may access the information intended by that link. Private league membership requires sign-in; members see other members’ public display names and eligible scores.
Optional statistics
“Help improve Farflung” in Settings starts off. If you enable it, the service records an entry-page category and a source category such as Google, ChatGPT, other search or AI, a postcard, or a friend challenge. Unknown sources remain unknown. Your browser classifies the referring page; its full URL and search terms are not sent to our game statistics. At most one landing event is recorded per browser tab each UTC day.
These optional records can be linked to your game session to measure how often an arrival leads to play. Turning the setting off stops collection and requests deletion of your landing records. It does not delete the game records needed for progress and fair competitions. The setting and sound preferences are stored in this browser.
Website analytics
Public pages of farflunggame.fun automatically use Plausible web analytics through our analytics proxy, including visits with query parameters. It measures page views, engagement, outbound links, and file downloads without analytics cookies. Requests include the page URL, referring page, and browser connection information. Private link pages are excluded. This website analytics operates independently of “Help improve Farflung”; that setting only controls the optional game statistics described above. Deleting game statistics does not remove anonymous aggregate web counts.
AI processing
The optional rarity assessment receives question text, allowed country identifiers, verified fact summaries, and anonymous aggregate statistics. Player email addresses and full behaviour histories are not sent to the model.
Deleting your records
Settings includes a deletion action for your current guest or account identity and linked personal game records. Deletion is permanent. Shared competition definitions and anonymous aggregate information may remain where they no longer identify you. Clearing cookies alone does not issue a server-side deletion request.
