Countries on the equator: scope and list

Eleven sovereign countries where latitude 0° crosses land, including islands. This is an equator-intersection list, not the game’s separate country-label latitude classification.

11 countries in this list.

  • Ecuador
  • Colombia
  • Brazil
  • São Tomé and Príncipe
  • Gabon
  • Republic of the Congo
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Uganda
  • Kenya
  • Somalia
  • Indonesia

What to notice

Read west to east across South America, Africa and Indonesia. São Tomé and Príncipe counts because the equator crosses Ilhéu das Rolas. Lists of thirteen also include the Maldives and Kiribati for water crossings; their land is not crossed. Equatorial Guinea’s name is a trap: the equator does not cross its land.

Recall countries on the equator

Distinguish the Republic of the Congo from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, then name all three South American land crossings.
