Field note 002

What makes a fair daily geography challenge?

A satisfying leaderboard begins with comparable attempts.

A fair daily geography challenge starts with shared clues

The daily challenge binds five question versions in one order to a fixed scoring version. Your location does not select a different puzzle. The server controls the clock and confirms every result.

Rarity does not move during play

If later guesses could change today’s scores, early and late players would face different incentives. Frozen snapshots make a given correct answer worth the same amount throughout the competition. Past results may improve future estimates.

Honest ties are a feature

Knowing an unexpected correct answer is the central skill. A hidden speed tie-breaker would add a second contest without telling you. Equal scores therefore share a place.

Assistance has its own place

Country search and untimed play are useful learning tools. Wander includes them and keeps its results separate from the timed daily board. Tutorial and practice questions do not use reserved daily questions.

Corrections need a record

Geography has naming conventions and ambiguous edges. When a published question is demonstrably wrong, a clear correction applied to everyone protects comparability better than quietly editing one person’s score.
